  1. Not a blogger myself but stumbled across your site from a link from a friend's site and really enjoyed it. Love your sense of humor, enthusiasm and little adventures and projects. Just thought I'd let you know of a "fan" who doesn't post and encourage you to keep sharing your info and entertainment.

    1. Awww. Thanks so much! Glad to know that somebody out there enjoys this thing. There's plenty more that I haven't put up yet, so I'll keep you all posted.

  2. So much for the awesome estate sale, eh? But we did pretty good at the Retro Flea Market anyway. It was a good day. I took like a four hour nap when I got home though...wasted all that warm sunny daylight. You gonna do a post about the "disappointment"? I'm going to make mention of it...but not 'til later this week. That just was not cool. No sir...not at all.

    1. Yeah, that was bad. We'll have to check keep checking listings every few hours in the future just to make sure they don't change the rules at the last minute again. I'll have to put this in my estate sale company review book.

The dealers from a certain area store came in and actually took #1-4 for themselves, but only brought 2 guys. So while they were looking for 3 and 4, those 2 cleaned out the whole place. Not only that, but the estate sale managers were whispering off to the side with them before it opened and told them where everything was and what the prices were. Pretty scandalous.

    2. Not that I was eavesdropping or anything. I mean you put it right out here for me to read, but it's called "palm greasing".

Sometimes an appropriately placed Andrew Jackson or two (depending on local tradition) will have people whispering to you.

Does it suck to have to do it? Definitely.

Does it pay off? You make the call.

    3. It may pay off, but it's still very poor form. I know that they're dealers, but they should play by the same rules as everyone else.

  3. I believe my wife attended the aforemented sale while i was at work and spoke of the enormous bust it was. She spoke of overprice items, good stuff being sold already and way too many cat items....and a young man with a certain lamp in his hands.

    1. Yeah, it was a huge bust. A certain lamp? Do tell.

    2. I think you're referring to the estate sale in UCity that was run by the Great Estate (people from momoderne).

I went as well, but late on Sunday so almost everything was gone. From what I saw the prices were really decent, that sofa was priced at 700 because it was legit designer made danish modern and it was so beautiful I seriously think it was worth it.

And yeah, a lot of cat items. But I asked about that and apparently the people that lived there never had children, just cats.

    3. Ah, OK. I went to the one in Crestwood being run by Steve and Sheri. That explains why I missed out on the lamp John mentioned. Was it the brass and glass Hollywood Regency looking one? We'd considered going to the U City sale, but it looked a little high-class for us. From what I've heard, both turned out to be busts anyway.

    4. Not quite sure. I recall there being a nautical type lamp that was brass and the base was a kind of strange compass type thing, but by time I got there there was such little amount of items left.

I wanted to get something because I always feel compelled to get at least SOMETHING when I go to the sales, and I found a little carved wooden cat and some old ass budweiser postcards that they just gave me all of it for free. Which was badass.

Oh I forgot to mention in my previous post, I've always had luck with midas touch. Their prices are amazing, they come down on prices with grouped items, and we got a set of R-Way Dressers that are super similar to the saarinen ones for 70 dollars for both.

    5. Didn't see that one. Sounds pretty cool though. I'll have to check out some of their sales this season.

  4. I was referring to the Ucity sale. My mistake. I'm gonna put myself in timeout.
