Oh credenza, you complete me.

Man knows no love greater than that between a collector of Mid-Century Modern and an amazing 1960's credenza...

... and this one sure has me all riled up!

*SWOON*

Our old Best Buy TV stand served its purpose well and had a certain retro flair to it, but after a hot tip from a good friend, it hit Craigslist and moved out faster than Grant took Richmond.  Gotta make room for that new vintage hotness.

And, oh boy, did it need plenty of room.  It barely fit along our 8 foot wall!

The upside of its size is that this sexy beast has storage aplenty: a set of two drawers on the right, shelves with folding doors in the center, and another two shelves with a door on the left.  We managed to fit all of our A/V stuff in just the center section, though the receiver will require a few wire routing holes before it can be hidden away.

I've no idea who the maker is, and right now I could really care less. I just want to bask in it's warm walnut glow.  Look at them legs!

Sorry, I'll stop going on.  I think that the girlfriend and Bessie might be getting a bit jealous.  I've also gotta take care of that squirrel's nest behind the television.  I swear, those wires must be moving and knotting up all on their own.

  1. That is FANTASTIC! Oh how I fall for a good credenza, I found mine at the theatre where I work its a 1959 Lane model (looks kind of MC but still modest enough to match the rest of my junk!) My Boss didn't know what he had and didn't much care either so He just gave it to me! No water rings, no stains? Yours look sperfect in your living room, congrats!

    1. Managed to get them a bit more under control, but I'm gonna have to get back there soon with a spool of wire ties. Those things drive me nuts!

  5. I understand completely. Although I don't have a real credenza--just the bottom half of a walnut hutch; it fits perfectly in its appointed space, thought--I have the same feeling of completeness now that I just tugged and huffed an puffed my way this very evening--with hubby's help, of course--into placing my teak-walnut-not sure WONDERFUL bookcase/wall unit/bar into the long niche that had been waiting for it, impatiently, for a year. THAT makes my room feel complete: full of LPs, books, strategically placed Hull and CA drip glaze pottery, my teak ice bucket, my Dorothy Thorpe glasses in their little carrying basket....a few Murano ashtrays and the liquor cabinet. Yeehaw! I'm finally ready should Don Draper ever drop by for that visit...

Congratulations on your "completion" as well. :-)

    1. Thanks for the compliments, Crystal! The old plaster walls look great and they could do really architecturally interesting things with them, but they sure are a pain in the you-know-what. Unfortunately, if it came down to it, I'd have to take drywall over plaster any day.

  7. I love it too. I really don't think that you could have found a more perfect piece to go there. Yes, those legs!

    1. Hey Eartha. Sorry to hear about everything going on at your place. If it's any consolation, we're having a laundry list of house troubles here as well. Home ownership can suck.

  9. Hi nick,
I was just wondering if you ever found out the maker of your credenza? I just picked up the same one from an office in Oakland ca. It is so solid and beautifully made I was thinking that it had to be something but can't find info on it anywhere. Let me know. Otherwise I will let you know if I find anything out. :)

    1. I believe that it is the Alma Desk Company. This one is untagged, but I found the matching desk at a local antique mall. These things really are beautiful. My favorite part is the floating legs.
