Office Update

In my last post I promised photos of the new Stanley Furniture desk.  Now it's come time to deliver.

Out with the old...

... and in with the new.

The difference looks subtle in these comparison shots, but the big change transpired in the corner.  No more huge granny cabinet!

In its place, you'll find a new lounging spot with a Bertoia Diamond Chair, sheepskin, and sculptural walnut lamp.

At first, I planned on simply swapping out the desks, but the replacement measured a good eight inches wider, necessitating the rather exhausting move.  Have I mentioned that granny cabinet was heavy?  You'd think it was full of bricks!  The trade was definitely worth it though.  All that extra desk space allows for much more room to work and play (check out my post on how to put together a cheap and easy high-end computer stereo system here, my review of the Sony MDR-V6 headphones here, and a writeup on the Tronsmart Ts7 smartphone here).

I can even fit all of my office supplies in the flowery, contact paper-lined drawers rather than stashing them away in the dining room.

You'll also notice that beast of a subwoofer no longer resides under the desk where it blasted away at my kneecaps.  Time to stretch out!

The desk bore no marks or tags, but the identification process was surprisingly brief and successful.  My two favorite features were its particularly nice legs and sculptural handles, both hallmarks of Stanley Furniture, so I began my Google image sleuthing with "stanley danish desk".  Boom!  It was all over.  If only every ID came that quickly.

Now, pardon me while I geek out at my new battle station.  I'll see you all next time.

    1. I agree. Not a bad cabinet, just the wrong style.

    1. Thanks Dana. That thing was huge. It really opened up the room when we cleared it out.

  3. Looks great! I wish I could find some sort of identification website that catalogs distinguishing features of various MCM furniture manufacturers. I've been trying to ID an unmarked wall shelving unit for months now and nothing I've seen has similar pulls... But that doesn't mean they don't exist, /somewhere./ :)

    1. I've seen a few sites like that, but none that are terribly useful. I'll try to compile a list for another post. Have a picture?

  4. Good job, Nick.
The granny cabinet actually looks good, you didn't chop it up for firewood did you? I hope you found another place for it.

    1. No worries. It's safe and sound. Luckily my parents had room to take it on.

    1. Thanks Doug. If only the "to do" list wasn't getting longer faster than I could check things off...
