Minneapolis

We're back from our brief business trip to Minneapolis/St. Paul, and I must say, I kinda miss it.

Minneapolis doesn't really come to mind when you think of "top places I'd love to live", but I've never seen a major city so clean and quiet.  The whole place was lush, serene, and gorgeous.  That's my kind of town.

They also have some amazing mid-century homes and the best thrifts I've ever seen.  I'm kinda freakin' jealous.  Too bad my suitcase was already full of  Ikea or I would have snatched it all it all up.

Speaking of Ikea, everything made it back safely save for a small scratch on one picture frame.  Whew!  I had serious doubts as to whether we'd be able to get those suitcases stowed.

Now, I know that some of you retro purists may frown upon my Ikea-shopping ways.  In my defense, some of the stuff there is pretty cool and there's no way that I'm gonna pass up a $29.99 goose down comforter and $5.99 down pillows!

  1. I never thought much about Minneapolis either...till I visited there, and I think it's a great city too. I would have had to buy that fish rug and the short candlesticks in the picture to the left of the rug. I have tall candlesticks exactly like them. I agree that Ikea has some buys that are just too good to pass up, and it's nice to have one nearby.

    1. I really is a lovely place. I'd have snagged quite a bit. These items were all at one thrift store!

  2. I've been hankering for another Ikea trip ... there's nothing wrong with mixing old and new and the Swedish wonder does create some well designed things (with some great price tags to boot). Minneapolis is gorgeous in the summer. But there's also winter, and then mud season (aka spring). Cheers - CT

    1. I agree. Some things are just better when new (sheets, blankets, pillows, etc.) and Ikea is one of the few places offering stylish designs at an affordable price.

  4. Aw, a little love for my home town. It is a gorgeous place and it's easy to have a good life here. They say that it's the hardest place to get people to move to, but also the hardest place to get people to move from.
