Rugmania 2012

It's time for the final showdown!  After all of your input and no small amount of ruminating, I've narrowed the selection down to two fine, woven competitors.  Two rugs enter, but only one will find its place in the living room.

Note: I plan on getting some Kilim pillows (above) for the sofa as well

In this corner we have the 5x8 hand woven kilim in a black and off-white zig-zag pattern.  It's neutral.  It's modern.  It's gorgeous!  It's only weakness: it might blend in with the taupe/beige walls.

In the other corner we have another 5x8 hand woven kilim, this time in a red, off-white, and black pattern.  This bad boy is a heavy-hitter with a lot of pop and a classic design, but will it's bold colors  leave it exposed to it's more flexible opponent?

Which floor covering will reign supreme?

Let's get ready to ruuuuuuuuu(g)mble!

  2. I prefer the "pop" factor of #2 as well!

  3. Looks like #2 is pulling ahead. I'd actually ordered #1 late last night because I thought that # 2 with the red kilim pillows and everything else would maybe be a bit too much. Then I had a bit of buyers remorse and cancelled. I just love them both and can't decide!

  4. Personally, I'd go with #1. But I tend to keep my rugs neutral and add pops of color with pillows, knickknacks and art. I also really like how it picks up the pattern in the pillow on the right. Rug #1 and 2 or 3 of the pillow on the right would look pretty sweet, and give you flexibility to change color schemes in the future without having to replace the rug.

  6. #1, #1!! Chevrons all the way! Check out this post that popped up on my Google reader today: http://www.livecreatingyourself.com/2012/01/best-deal-youll-ever-find-for-chevron.html. However I do like #2 as well. Get both! One for the dining room and one for the living room!

  7. zig zag pattern because if you are ordering those pillows it might be too matchy-matchy with the red rug

  8. So far that's 2 votes for #2 and 3 for #1!

    Sudha- #1?

CT- I wish I could! Unfortunately we have a roof that needs replacing.

Rachael - I thought the same as the red in the rug and the pillows might be too much, but do you think that the zig zag one would disappear with the taupe/beige walls?

  9. no Nick..i meant i would go with #2, and #1 bring in a traditional /comtemporary vibe with your furniture pieces, a bright #2 is apt

  10. how many pillows do u plan to have, another way to look at it is...your furniture is all neat and clean line in neutral and black tones, so are your walls. So the rug and say two or three pillows with add the color factor and tie the set up together..in the meanwhile..pl do send me pics of your home for a tour on DE :)

  11. Sudha - I'd love to do a house tour! We have a few things to finish up first, namely putting up the Danish wall unit, the rug/pillows, and a few other pieces of decor, but I'll send some pictures as soon as we get things a bit more settled.

  13. You're right back where ya started...I vote #1. Not feelin' #2.

Oh, and Sudha...don't hold your breath! People like us never think we're done. Nick's joint looks great right now, or at least it did last time we were there. Then again...maybe your request will spur Nick to action and we'll all get to see the wall unit soon!
