Who's a good boy

Having a feral cat who lives at the office qualifies me as a pet-owner, right?

And wouldn't you say that every good kitty cat needs a treat now and again?

So picking up this Upjohn Unipet treat jar was totally justified!

Well, maybe not, but it's been on my list for quite a while and was super cheap to boot.  I don't know what it is about those tiny graphic kittens and puppies, but they make my heart go pitter patter.

For you history nuts: The Upjohn Company wasn't actually a manufacturer of ceramics.  They were a pharmaceutical company that contracted McCoy to produce these treat jars as promotional giveaways for their Unipet line of veterinary supplements, which was introduced in the mid 1960's.  The jars came with tops in yellow, green, and orange.

The lid is missing it's bell (because pet-owners love being mobbed by their animals every time they go near the treat jar), but that's a easy fix.  I'll just pick up some glue, yarn, and a cheap craft bell whenever we actually get around to bringing someone home from the shelter.  We've done quite a lot of fostering and managed to find all of our charges new homes, but one of these days one of them will end up sticking around.

Speaking of furry beasts, that damned groundhog better start looking for a new line of work.

Does that look like Spring, Phil?  Huh?  Does it?!

Edit:  I've been watching my Google Analytics and noticed that someone was directed to this blog by Googling "can I Plastidip my cat." Please don't.

  1. I love Unipet bowls. We got several at one time in the store, and I snagged a green one. Your feeding a feral cat is proof that you don't own cats; they own you. That's why I think cats are cool. :)

  2. No. Please don't plastidip your cat. Ever. Even if they sort of deserve it. We have two cats who kind of own us. I have had all kinds of cats including feral. I picked these two out to be the opposite of feral and they are. So they do give me the time of day especially around feeding time.

  3. I'm going to forward this to my wife as she is known around here as the "cat whisperer". I have yet to see a cat she can't win over and we have three of the stictly indoor variety that currently own us. On the bright side you don't have to walk behind them and clean up after them in public, although I'm tasked with taking care of the "boxes". Hey at least you can do this in the privacy of your home! Love the patterns!

  4. The bad part is that I've never been cat person. I like them, but they can be somewhat unpredictable and not particularly affectionate. This cat can't get enough attention. Once you enter the room you have to pet her or she follows you around rubbing against your legs. She even loves being carried around like a baby and gets upset whenever we put her down. I think we might have spoiled her.
