The end of an era

NoOoooOooOoooOo!  Why must all good things come to an end so quickly?

The Foundry, my most favored online purveyor of dirt-cheap MCM knock offs, is no more.  It's been gobbled up by Hayneedle.com.  They said over and over again that everything would be just the same and, like every other time that a business promises that there won't be any changes, there's been some major freakin' adjustments... for the worse.  Yes, those words almost invariably mean that things are about to get either more expensive or more complicated.  In this case, both transpired.

Hayneedle.com is a mess and their prices often go far north of retail.  Bullet planters for $196?  No, thanks.  I can get them from the manufacturer, Hip Haven, for $150.

Ugh.  This online shopper is not impressed.

Luckily, I got all of my bullet planter needs covered by the Foundry before things went down.

All of these bullet planters (plus one more not pictured) were brought to my doorstep for $90 TOTAL.  Suck it, Hayneedle!  I got some other great deals that I'll share with you later as well.

So, readers, what are your sources for the occasional guilty knock off purchase?  Have any good ones that you'd like to share?

  1. When we first opened the store, we carried Hip Haven's bullet planters and hardly marked them up at all. They're out of Austin, so we'd just stock up when we were down there for other things. I have one of the rattan-style ones.

I didn't know about the Foundary. Boo!!!

    1. I love those bullet planters, but like all modern planters, they're just so expensive. I'm not sure how they sold these so cheap. They must have been losing money.

    1. So terrible! They were my go-to place. At least I can put a little more in the piggy bank now.

  3. I visited The Foundry every day. Since they changed I even went so far as to delete the bookmark I had. No sense going there now. I don't even visit Fab anymore. They changed their website and it's not as easy to view the daily shops. I've only purchased a few thigs from them so I doubt they will miss my business but I have my standards.

    1. Me too! So sad. I never really got into Fab and by the time I checked it out the prices were already sky-high. I've kept my eye on the new site, but there's nothing even close to their old prices/selection.

  4. Yep, I saw this news and was seriously bummed out. Now they carry Control brand repros and the prices are way higher. Plus the site is not as easily navigable as The Foundary site was.

So, you're the guy who bought all the $25 orange bullet planters! I was trying to get one of them for months! grrrr. ;-)

    1. Way way higher. It seems like every time these sites have a good thing going, they make all these big changes to milk more money out of their customers and then end up going bust. Such a shame.

And I didn't get the $25 bullet planters. I got the $15 ones!

  5. I just found out about touchofmodern.com and they have some pretty decent stuff sometimes. Also ridiculous stuff. Like 80k watches.

    1. Yeah, I've had a look at them as well. Haven't seen any of the replicas, but I'll keep watching.
